Most women’s experience with weight loss is negative. So I explored the idea of helping women lose weight “joyfully”.

What would Joyful Weight Loss even look like? I teach three pillars of joyful weight loss.

Most women’s experience with weight loss is negative.

It comes at a price of feeling deprived, restricted and if we are being honest, feelings of inadequacy and self judgment.

It has felt anything but joyful!

So as I explored the idea of helping women lose weight “joyfully”, it is no surprise people thought it wasn’t possible.

“How can I feel joyful if I have to say NO to my favourite foods?” was a common question I would get.

Many asked: What would Joyful Weight Loss even look like?

So, here are the three pillars I teach:

1. ACCEPTANCE

Accept where you and your body currently are, rather than, be critical and judgmental of it not being good enough.

Imagine hanging out with a friend who told you repeatedly that you weren’t good enough. How willing would you be to help her achieve her goals, if she continually demanded something from you, without so much as a kind word?

When we are critical of our bodies, it is like we are telling ourselves …we are not good enough and demand that it change. Nothing good comes from a place of criticism.

We must always treat ourselves from a place of love.

When you do this, it creates inner joy.

2. INNER-KNOWING

Too often we tend to overcomplicate things instead of trusting our inner-knowing.

Start with the practise of asking yourself:
What do I need most right now?

When you start to listen to your own inner-knowing…you start to develop an internal wisdom. You will start to understand if your body is actually hungry, or if it is looking to solve for an emotional need.

You will be able to distinguish when hunger cues are real or if it’s just your body looking for comfort. Often we are looking for affirmation that we are going to be ok.

When you start to ask yourself “what do I need most right now?”, you will increase your self-awareness and confidence. You will come to know exactly what your body needs and how to solve for it.

When you do this, it creates inner joy.

3. CURIOUS

Get curious to what is currently working. Instead of berating yourself with a list full of things that ‘aren’t’ working (which make you feel defeated), make a list of things that worked in the past and get curious to how you can do more of it.

Ask yourself:
What does my body need more of?
What does my body need less of?

By becoming curious, rather than judgmental, you will find an increase of self-belief, and you will know exactly what your body needs to lose weight.

When we do, it creates inner joy.
