You Are Not Broken

Having the thoughts that make us feel like we are not as good as others, is part of our DNA (thank-you primitive brain!).

And just because our brain produces them – does not mean we are broken.

You Are Not Broken

Last week I had my regular session with my Life Coach.

She helped me identify a thought that had been causing me to feel “icky” (yup – that is the feeling that came up for me).  I was noticing I was not showing up as my best self when I thought it.

Have you ever had one of those?

You know, the ones that make you feel guilty even just thinking it?

Things like:

You compare yourself to someone else because they appear to be better than you or have more than you?

But when you think you are not as good as them, it makes you feel bad about yourself – so you create a story about them to make YOU feel better.

Stories like:
“Oh well, at least I have more XX than her”
“Yeah, but she doesn’t get along with XX like I do”.

But then these thoughts make you feel EVEN worse about yourself because now you’re even further away from the person you want to be…#ick!

I call it the Broken Loop:

1.         We compare.
2.         We despair.
3.         We create a story.
4.         We criticize ourselves for story.
5.         We think we are broken

Repeat #1, #2, #3, #4, #5…
Repeat #1, #2, #3, #4, #5…

You get the picture.

I know I am not alone in this…we do this because we are human!

Having the thoughts that make us feel like we are not as good as others, is part of our DNA (thank-you primitive brain!).

But here is the important part:

Not all of our thoughts serve us!
And just because our brain produces them – does not mean we are broken.

My coach helped identify my thought and showed me how I was judging myself for having it.

I was stuck in the Broken Loop.

And when she reminded me that my brain gives me lots of thoughts and not all of them will help me become the person I want to be, I felt normal.

I no longer felt like I “wasn’t good enough”.

I no longer felt like I was broken.

My coach helped me step into the person I wanted to be, by helping me find a thought that made me show up as my best self.

Yes, even as a coach – I have thoughts that don’t serve me.

Because I am human.

And I have a brain.

This is why I continue to do work on managing my mind and mastering my emotions.

That’s why I work weekly with my Life Coach.

If you struggle with judging your thoughts and feeling like you are not showing up as the best version of yourself, I can help.

You are not broken my friend.
